6,600 Annual Volunteer Hours
The Coppell Community Garden is successful because of the many volunteers joined in the effort to build community and healthy living in Coppell. The volunteers have learned, planned, and worked with one another, built on what they believe, learned by observing and doing, to develop a system of transformation for each individual involved throughout the larger community.
Youth Action
My name is Akash Srinivasan, a current senior at Coppell High School. I was introduced to the community gardens by a friend at the beginning junior year, and have been going ever since. I have so far enjoyed all the Saturday mornings that I have spent at the gardens with my colleagues. I love doing things that are both meaningful and for a good cause, and the community gardens allows me to do just that. It enables students like me who want to get involved in the community and help out a noble cause. The gardens as well as being on the board have enabled me to voice my voice and express my opinions in ways that previously I didn't have. The gardens and the board have helped many people in their endeavors and I am glad to say that I played a part in their philanthropic activities.
The community gardens are a great place for youth to get involved through community service and service learning projects. Saturday mornings throughout the year are devoted to youth in the garden. There are opportunities to learn more about composting, tools, mulching, planting, harvesting, and more! Email info@coppellcommunitygarden.org. Coppell High School and New Tech High at Coppell can track their volunteer hours on www.x2VOL.com
